Tokyo, Day 4

An empty street in Shimokitazawa

We’re starting the day in Shimokitazawa, wandering the tiny streets and browsing vintage clothing stores. I’m looking for vintage Japanese brands, but it seems they mostly have US clothes here – old Champion sweaters, college hoodies and band shirts, all at a crazy markup. But they’re really nicely curated, so I kind of get it.

Racks with vintage clothes

Everyone is dressed so nice here. I tried to sneak in some shots of strangers with cool outfits, but the dithering killed most of the details.

Also got this accidental self-portrait:

In the afternoon we walked around Inokashira Park. I drank a Strong Zero on a bench by the lake while the sun was gently peeking through the trees.

In the evening we headed up to Shibuya where we ate the best skewers at this yakitori place. Unfortunately I forgot its name immediately after we left.

We had direct view of the kitchen and the chefs prepping the skewers. After they noticed we were studying the menu for a while, they brought us this platter showing off their impressive selection of vegetarian skewers (but we wanted only meat!!)

The whole place was filled with young couples on what seemed to be early stage dates. The guy in the background of the photo above seemed more interested in chatting with the chefs than with his date! A bit funny to watch.
